Information and Registration
Join the hundreds of cyclists in the first Steaming Nostril cycling event. From the seasoned racer to the first time rider, this is the ride for you! Awards for the top overall male & female racers and medals to the top 3 in each age group. Chances are good that you’ll ride by Old Order Mennonites driving horse and buggies on their way to Sunday services. The clip-clop of hooves will briefly drown out the zing of bike chains connecting you to this unique region of Ontario. You’ll ride past historic buildings in the small, quaint towns of the region.
Let a new tradition begin!
Cyclocross, mountain bikes, single speeds and hybrid bikes are recommended. The 65km course consists of 55% farm and dirt roads, 40% rail trail and 5% paved road. The course is a loop route that starts and ends at Lions Hall in Elmira.
Registration
Registration and Number Pick Up is available beside the Woolwich Memorial Centre in the Lions Hall building 40 South Street West at the corner of Snyder Avenue South, Elmira, Ontario.
Please note pre-registered riders must come in person to pick up their packages as a hard copy Canadian Cycling Association waiver must be signed by each participant. You CANNOT have someone else pick up your packet for you. Registration and package pick up on Sat. March 23 and Sun. March 24.
Saturday March 23rd – Adventure Guide Store – 1pm to 4pm. (225 The Boardwalk Ira Needles Blvd at University Ave. Kitchener)
Sunday March 24th – Lions Hall – 9:00am to 10:15am.
Saturday Registration and Plate Pick-Up is recommended.
Note: Weekend registration is CASH only.
Registration Fees:
January to March 3rd – $50 plus HST & Administration Fee
Monday March 4th to noon Thursday March 21st – $65 plus HST & Administration Fee
Event Weekend Registration Saturday March 23rd & Sunday March 24th – $90 total (includes registration fee & HST) - Weekend registration is CASH only!
Included in your registration fees will be traffic management by police services, first aid support, rest stop beverages/snacks and a meal after the race. You will have your choice of soup/chilli with rolls and a hot beverage and bottled water.
Note: A portion of every rider’s registration fee will be donated to support the Kissing Bridge Rail Trailway.
Categories/Awards
You are placed into a category based on your birth date. (Men and Women – based on age as of Dec 31/13). The categories are: 11-19 (11-15 must be accompanied by an adult), 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+ with a single speed category.
Top 3 Overall Male/Female and Masters Awards, Overall winners will be removed from categories.
Wave Start
2 Waves to reduce congestion on the course.
Start: Wave 1 – 11:00AM
Start: Wave 2 – 11:05AM
Wave 1
Limit 150 riders – You must have a UCI licence or OCA citizen permit.
*Additional invitations for the unfilled positions in wave 1 will be issued to riders of exceptional ability at the organizers discretion after the early bird registration cut-off date. If you wish to be considered for an upgrade to Wave 1 you must be registered by Sunday March 3rd, 2013. After March 3rd please send all requests for consideration via the Cycle Waterloo Website by sending us an email on the “contact us” page.
Wave 2
No qualification criteria, but its first come first served to the start line.
REST STOP SUPPORT
At the 43km distance along the course you will find a fully supported rest stop with water, sports drink and quick food products. Portable restrooms will be available at this rest stop for your convenience.
CUT OFF TIMES IN EFFECT
The race course will have full police support. However, after 70 minutes riders who have not yet completed 21 km and after 140 minutes riders who have not yet completed 41km will no longer have police support. Riders may continue riding the course at their own discretion following all traffic and road laws.
AWARD CEREMONIES
3:00pm on Sunday March 24th at the Woolwich Lions Hall
You or a representative must be in attendance to get your medal/prize. Medals/prizes will not be mailed.
BE PREPARED! EVENT GOES SNOW OR SHINE!
Bring a spare tube, pump, patch kit, rain jacket and gloves. Mechanical support will be available at the Lions Hall start area but not on the course, if you have a serious mechanical problem a roving pickup vehicle will be available to take you back to the start/finish line.
We may have snow or sleet on race day so be ready for anything.
Helmets are mandatory so don’t leave home without it!
